Ruby
Idaho is known as “The Gem State.” The many facets of Idaho include Ponderosa Pine forests, incredible whitewater rafting, gorgeous canyons, hundreds of hot springs, and scenic mountains. There are actual gems, as well, touted by the state of Idaho. Our state gemstone is the star garnet. It is quite something, if you haven’t seen one yet. Because of the unique properties of the garnet, on the face of the polished stone a 4 or 6-point star is visible. It is fascinating to see.
When I last made a trip to Vietnam, I was surprised to find out that star rubies were mined there. I decided to purchase one of these precious stones.

I had it mounted in a ring which my wonderful wife often displays on her hand. As valuable and precious as this ruby is, I am writing to you today to share with you a more valuable Ruby from Vietnam. Ruby is the adopted daughter of Tesha Kropidlowski in Cheney, Washington. Tesha and her family are one of our mission partners. Please pray for Ruby, who is undergoing surgery as I write this.

Here is the latest update from Tesha's daughter Haley:
“Hi!
Ruby and my mom flew to Salt Lake City today. Ruby is now a patient at Primary Children’s Medical Center which is part of the University of Utah Healthcare System. Ruby is in the Neuroscience Trauma Unit, Room 2015.
Surgery is scheduled for noon Wednesday. Ruby will be having her second cervical vertebra repaired (it was broken). She will also have the base of her skull fused with the top two vertebrae in her neck, using metal pins and a bone graft which will be taken either from her femur or from her ribs. If everything goes well, she should be out of surgery by the end of the afternoon.
If there are no complications, Ruby will hopefully be discharged 3-5 days after surgery and Ruby and Tesha will happily return to Mica and Anna in Cheney who are missing them very much.
The surgery will be a permanent fix to Ruby’s problem. She should also regain full mobility in her neck after recovery from the procedure. The attending physician is an expert in the field, this procedure is done often at the hospital that Ruby is at, and everyone is hopeful for a good outcome.
I’ll email again tomorrow night when Ruby is out of surgery.”
Right after I sent out the e-mail, I received the following update from Haley:
"Hi Everyone,
I just heard from my mom that Ruby’s surgery went smoothly. She will be in recovery soon and then transferred to the ICU. If all continues to go well, they might be able to come back home to Cheney as early as Sunday.
Thank you for all the thoughts, prayers and good wishes. Our family really appreciates having so many amazing people in our lives!!
Love,
Haley"
Praise God! Trusting in God’s promise that he will work out all things for our good; depending on Psalm 50:15
"Call upon me in the day of trouble,
I will rescue you and you will glorify
me."
